The Rock Spring Preschool Program

The Rock Spring Preschool Program is based around 3 main elements: learning through play, thematic units and the High Reach Curriculum.  These elements are woven into each day to take into account the different interests, varied levels of development, and multiple modes of learning of our children.  The goal is to ensure that our children are stimulated and challenged each and every day and continue to develop the skills they will need to be successful in kindergarten and beyond. 

Our Program informally begins well before the preschool years as we help our babies and toddlers develop language, reasoning, motor, and social skills.  While all three elements of our Program are present throughout the RSCC classrooms, emphasis shifts from learning through play in the early years, more towards thematic units in the intermediate years, to a more formal curriculum in preschool.   

The Program is overseen, developed and managed by our Board of Directors, Program Director and team of teachers.  Three members of our Board are elementary or middle school teachers with children who have attended RSCC.  Our President has a Masters Degree in Elementary Education and taught kindergarten, second, fourth and sixth grade classes in the Montgomery County Public School System.  Our Program Director graduated from the Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies, taught at a Montessori school and our school for several years, and has now earned a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction for Early Childhood Education. Between our 3 lead preschool teachers, we have a BS in Early Childhood Education, a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration on Special Education and Elementary Education, and over 30 years of combined teaching experience. 

We get great feedback from our parents that our “little graduates” are well prepared for kindergarten.  However, we take the approach that by providing a rich learning environment where our children enjoy their day, we are able to meet their needs on many different levels.  Because we are a full day, year round experience for most of our children, play and fun are critical components to success.
